Letter from the Editors – Winter Newsletter 2022

Greetings, IPD Philly community!

Happy Winter Solstice from Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Philly!

Our 6th annual Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, October 10th, was amazing thanks to all the speakers, performers, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and everyone who showed up to celebrate with us! If you couldn’t make the event this year, you can check out our recap for an overview and even watch it on our YouTube channel! In this newsletter, we’re also featuring Indigenous Peoples’ Day movements from around the country!

We’re in the final push to reach our financial goals for 2022! It’s been another successful year of growth for IPD Philly, and we’re excited about what next year will bring! We have an excellent overview of our successes and how to support us in our Giving Season Fundraiser Campaign, featured in this newsletter!

In addition to our successes, we’re sharing resources to read and learn about the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), which has an uncertain future due to the Haaland v. Brackeen hearing at the US Supreme Court.

In relation, one of our associate writers, Ashley Caranto Morford, interviewed Borikén Taíno Arawak advocate and organizer Tai Pelli to talk about the history of human trafficking of Indigenous women and colonialism on Turtle Island. We’re also centering the voices and perspectives of Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, and trans folks by sharing book recommendations from within the community.

Our quarterly newsletter is jam-packed with information and resources for all our readers, so be sure to sign up for our future installments!

Wanishi,
N’toyaxsn,
Gracias,
Thank You,

IPD Philly – Board & Editors
