From IPD Philly 2026

In January, Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly officially launched its Year of Awareness, a multimedia coordinated effort to celebrate, defend, and restore Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Philadelphia following a court decision that overturned the former mayor’s executive order and reinstated Columbus Day.
Throughout the year, IPD Philly’s Programmatic teams [Action Community Team (ACT), Media Justice, EDU and Event Teams] will:
- Publish a monthly newsletter From the Movement Desk with updates, resources, and calls to action
- Host community meetings to inform, mobilize, and build collective power
- Re-release our public statement over social media explaining what happened and why it matters
- Launch a petition calling for the official reinstatement of Indigenous Peoples’ Day
- Share clear pathways for contacting City Council and engaging in the civic process
- Share content on key moments — 1492, 1892, 1992, & today — and their lasting impact
- Celebrate our growing movement that is rooted in history, community, and 10 years of Indigenous-led advocacy
