Last year, we celebrated the fourth Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a two-day virtual event on Saturday, October 10 and Monday, October 12. The event included pan-indigenous panels where Native artists and dignitaries shared their unique perspectives on how important it is to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ history and heritage across the nation instead of celebrating the myth of Christopher Columbus. The two-day event concluded with a concert on the evening of October 12, featuring musicians and dancers. The event was recorded and broadcast online, powered by PhillyCam. We will highlight a portion of the event in each quarterly newsletter. Here’s a recap of panels 3 and 4, in case you missed it.
Panel 3 – Indigenous Expressions
In this hour long conversation, the artists will share how their art practices are informed by tradition, community, and issues that affect Native people today.
Panel 4 – Indigeneity and Latinidad
This panel aims to discuss reclamation and celebration of Indigenous cultures and languages of the Americas. We will share experiences around Indigeneity, Latinidad, and groups in the diaspora.
