Philly 2020

October

Overview

This year, we celebrated the fourth Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the city of Philadelphia and it was a two days digital awareness event. Scheduled for the second weekend of October, IPD Philly brought Native artists and dignitaries to share their unique perspectives on how important it is to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ History and Heritage across the nation instead of celebrating the myth of Christopher Columbus.

This program is now available for public view and educational purposes only (see below). If you have any questions, please reach out to us via email.

Also please take a movement to learn about our mission and next initiatives.

Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Brief History

Presenter:
Rev. Dr. John Norwood
Tribal Chief Justice of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation in New Jersey

Description:

We are still here: The keepers of Lenapehoking. The history of this lands original people, the Lenni-Lenape, is as diverse and rich as the winding shores of the Delaware River. Come sit in on this brief history lesson from Tribal Chief Justice Rev. Dr. John Norwood as he walks us through a timeline from Colonial contact to the Modern Sovereign Tribal Nations that still reside in the ancestral lands of Lenapehoking. Rev. Norwood focuses on the struggle and continued fight Lenape people have endured to stay here and preserve the land for their familial ties living in the Diaspora; and how many Lenape people survived by hiding right in plain sight.
