Writers / Editors (PAID, Volunteer & Internship Positions) – Updated List

As our organization’s initiatives grow, the further our messages need to go to reach more people, so we are in need of multiple writers/editors to help us amplify our voices by maintaining written content for our blog, quarterly e-newsletter, social media, press releases, and fundraising. All Indigenous groups and allies alike are encouraged to apply. Please spread the word. 

You will get to work collaboratively with a small group of talented, amazing people to curate and create content for our communications channels in a laid-back atmosphere (virtual and/or in-person). The expected start date is immediate.

Here are a few details on the positions we are offering:


PAID POSITIONS


Compensation: $60 per 500 words. (Contractor)
Experience: 3+ years in writing and publishing on Indigenous Peoples of the Western Hemisphere (ie: Native American, Inuit, First Nations, Native Hawaiian) subject matter (fiction and non-fiction) and would like to write articles for our blog and/or quarterly newsletter.


Compensation: $60 per 500 words and per media upon agreement. (Contractor)
Experience: 3+ years in writing and publishing visual stories (with photos, short videos, illustrations) on Indigenous Peoples of the Western Hemisphere (Native American, Inuit, First Nations, Native Hawaiian) subject matter (fiction and non-fiction) and would like to publish for our blog and/or quarterly newsletter.


VOLUNTEER / UNPAID POSITIONS


Commitment: 4 to 10~ hours per month for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months
Compensation: Unpaid (Volunteer or Pro-bono)
Experience: All levels of experience. The candidate will assist the Executive, Media, and Communications Team.

Experience: All levels of experience. The candidate will assist the Executive Team with writing, and editing grants.

  • Typically volunteers require dedicating only 1-5 hours a week maximum; 5 to 10~ per month. Hours increases as the work pick up close to the month we publish our Newsletters (March, June, September, December)

  • Participate in our annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly celebration if available

Candidate must be:

  • Someone with excellent writing experience
  • If it is a writer / visual storyteller must also demonstrate expertise in their media
  • Someone currently enrolled in college or already graduated a plus
  • Able to communicate well
  • Able to meet bi-weekly for virtual planning meetings or as needed per assignment
  • Able to have a computer
  • Attentive to details
  • Positive attitude
  • Good collaborator
  • Able to work with and without supervision
  • Fast learner
  • Someone with basic computer knowledge and software like Google Drive, Docs, and WordPress
  • Reliable
  • Trustworthy
  • Dependable
