Happy Spring from Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly, Inc!
We hope this spring finds you thriving and basking in the rejuvenating warmth of the sun. The Spring Equinox heralds a vibrant transition from winter’s restful embrace to a season of renewed energy, when communities in the northern hemisphere unite to cultivate and celebrate the earth as nature awakens. During this time, numerous Indigenous ceremonies, including the Mexica New Year, are celebrated to honor the powerful life cycles dictated by the sun and our profound connection to the Earth.
In our Spring Newsletter, we are excited to share stories about inspiring Landback initiatives and environmental activism taking place in the USA, Mexico, and South America. We also cover significant Indigenous events that have recently unfolded in U.S. politics, such as the commutation of Leonard Peltier and the remarkable achievements of Deb Haaland during her term as Secretary of the Interior.
In light of the increasing threats posed by the current U.S. administration to our communities, we also highlight essential Indigenous and immigrant rights organizations based in Philadelphia and across the United States that are working to protect our rights.
Additionally, we are pleased to provide educational resources that explore the intersections of Central American history, Black liberation, and Indigenous sovereignty, as well as teaching materials on Indigenous fire practices.
Our featured books continue to delve into U.S. immigration issues, including an accessible children’s book that highlights the land rights of Indigenous communities and Leonard Peltier’s memoir, “Prison Writings: My Life Is My Sun Dance.”
Join us in celebrating these important stories and resources that inspire action!
