Winter Fundraiser: Looking back to 2024 and forward to 2025!

Join us in making a difference today!

Since our inaugural Indigenous Peoples’ Day event in 2017, IPD Philly has become an essential organization in Philadelphia. We work tirelessly to raise awareness and recognition of the First Peoples of the Americas. Our flagship event, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, draws significant attention. We also host various educational workshops and community events throughout the city. These events explore Indigenous issues, histories, and experiences. Our advocacy for Indigenous peoples’ rights impacts both our local community and the nation, driving meaningful change. Additionally, our dedicated community action team, and media team play a crucial role in amplifying our mission. The momentum of our movement is growing, and this is only the beginning of our journey.

Here is an overview of our successes in 2024 and goals for 2025!

WHY

IPD Philly has had an exceptional year of growth, and we are set to continue this momentum!

LOOKING BACK AT 2024

We’ve had another remarkable year. We are deeply grateful to all our outstanding board members, advisors, staff, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, donors, and allies!

Let’s take a moment to reflect on 2024, celebrate our achievements, and embrace the coming year and beyond!

  • We hosted our 8th annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day at Shackamaxon (Penn Treaty Park, Philadelphia) on October 14th! You can learn more and watch the event online here! The event was full of amazing and inspirational Indigenous artists, vendors, performers, and activists from across the Americas. This year, the Lenape Working Group invited the Lenape elder Curtis Zunigha to lead a Lenape cultural program. • We had several amazing community partnerships this year!
    • The Philadelphia Film Society helped host a free community screening of the Native led Without Arrows. You can learn more here!
    • The Barnes Foundation collaborated for the October 6- PICO event, which highlighted performers who participated in the annual event.
    • We strengthened the partnership with Iglesias Garden, who has generously supported our annual event by providing cooking space since 2023.
    • The Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunities is our new city sponsor and is ready to support the upcoming year.
    • The office of House Representative Chris Rabb once again joined us.
  • Our amazing teams continued providing exceptional programs and media:
    • The EDU Team delivers in-person and online educational initiatives like the Coalition Building Workshops series. This year we are incredibly excited to report that we presented at the Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment & Opportunity, Circle Legacy, Delaware Valley Friends School, and others.
    • The Action Community Team is responsible for coalition building, organizing rallies, starting petitions, advocating for the rights of Indigenous peoples, and supporting our policy objectives. We have hosted several essential strategic meetings and engaged over 25 stakeholders.
    • The Media Justice Team create media content for our website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, e-mail distribution lists, and media partner channels. In 2024, we celebrated our 4th consecutive year of quarterly newsletters! Since 2022, we have also made almost 100 social media posts as part of our Did You Know media campaign. IPD Philly has been running this campaign to educate people on Indigenous history and knowledge with quick facts.

LOOKING FORWARD TO 2025

2025 is just around the corner! As our organization continues to grow, we’re excited about our goals for the next year.

  • Hosting on Monday October 13th 2025, another amazing Indigenous Peoples’ Day!
  • Our Media Justice Team is also growing. In 2025-2026 and in partnership with PhillyCAM and other media makers, we are getting ready to make TV-ready programming from our archive and future events. How exciting!
  • Our EDU Team is preparing for a new series of Coalition Building Workshops! Can’t wait!
  • Our Action Community Team is pushing to make Indigenous Peoples’ Day a statewide commemoration and campaign to mandate Tribal history in Pennsylvania.
