Job Description – Communications Project Manager
(Part-time) Independent Contractor / Remote Position
Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly Inc. (IPD PHILLY) is looking for a Communications Project Manager to assist IPD Philly’s Communications and Executive Team in building and engaging our community through our editiorial and social media platforms. We anticipate this contract will start immediately.
Successful candidates must be able to work remotely & independently in a fast-paced environment. They do not need to be local to Philadelphia, but high familiarity with Indigenous topics and the region are preferred.
This position is part-time (Independent Contractor) with flexible hours (average 7 hours/week). Must be available to attend weekly staff meetings via Zoom or as needed per assignment. Compensation will be based on experience (starting at $23 per hour), and it will be paid upon monthly invoices.
This position is open for Indigenous candidates (Native Americans and Alaskan Natives) and non-Natives who are familiar with our mission and vision.
Responsibilities:
- Managing IPD Philly’s social media campaigns and editorial projects;
- Pitching, developing, and collaborating on content;
- Copywriting (Must be able to adapt and maintain our brand voice) primarily for IPD Philly’s press releases, blog, social media posts, and quarterly newsletter;
- Researching information about Indigenous peoples of the Americas for our Did You Know project and Newsletter;
- Scheduling and posting across all social media platforms;
- Monitoring and responding to comments and DMs;
- Creating visual materials, memes, event listings, advertisements, and other engagement opportunities;
Requirements and Qualifications
- Excellent project management and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent Writing, Editing, and Research Skills.
- Any experience with social media, marketing, & content creation is required, with the opportunity to learn on the job.
- Any level of Design is prefer, with the opportunity to learn on the job.
- Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, Google Suite, WordPress, Canva, and Airtable is a plus.
- Familiarity with Facebook social media marketing and scheduling tools, such as Meta Planner is a plus.
- High Familiarity with Indigenous topics, ideally through lived experience is a plus.
- Flexible, committed, and punctual;
- Able to work with and without supervision;
- Able to work in a team, independently and remotely;
- Able to work during some standard business hours, evenings, and weekends;
- Able to attend staff meetings at least weekly for 1 to 3 hours and to commit to a weekly flextime schedule;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in person, emails, telephone, text, and zoom;
- Has a computer and phone, plus reliable internet access;
- Candidates currently enrolled in college or who already graduated with a degree or experience in journalism, history, ethnic studies, or other related fields are a plus.
- 2+ years of researching, writing, and/or publishing on Indigenous Peoples of the Western Hemisphere (ie: Native American, Inuit, First Nations, Native Hawaiian, Indigenous Americans) is a plus.

Selection Process
Qualified candidates will be contacted to schedule a phone screen to confirm alignment with the role. From there, selected candidates will be invited to complete a brief hiring exercise and schedule an interview with IPD Philly’s Executive Director. Position is available immediately.

Overview
Job Type: (Part-time) Independent Contractor
Compensation: Based on Experience, starting at $23 per hour for 20 to 24 hours per month
Duration: 12 months with an opportunity to renew contract upon available funds.
Schedule: Candidate must be available to attend staff meetings at least weekly for 1 to 3 hours. Also candidate must commit to a weekly flextime schedule during some standard working hours, evenings and weekends.
