How the Legacy of the Carlisle Indian School Project Began

The Carlisle Indian Industrial School, established in 1879, sought to assimilate Native American children by erasing their cultures. Though closed in 1918, its lasting trauma is significant. The Circle Legacy Center launched the Carlisle Indian School Project in 2016 to honor and remember these students, aiming to establish an interpretive center near the school’s cemetery.
