A brief reintroduction of Our Stories, Some highlights from events in IPDPhilly’s last year, and an idea of what to look forward to!
First off, I want to welcome all of you to “Our Stories“, IPDPhilly’s blog! Starting now, this will be the main space for us to post ongoing stories, updates, retrospectives, interviews, and other “peeks behind-the-scenes” for IPDPhilly. 2021 was a big year for the campaign, and 2022 is shaping up to be even better! Last year, we hosted many events, both live and digital, to continue our work indigenizing the city of Philadelphia.
As part of our Spring Newsletter, (which can be read here!) we continued our series Philadelphia is Indigenous Land by featuring the work of Brujo de la Mancha. (There may also be a more personal interview with the artist himself in the very near future!) Also included were articles concerning the documentary Back to Manhatta: The Return of the Lenape, as well as an article about the Lenapehoking exhibit in the Boston Public Library as part of our continued commitment to spreading information about the Lenape people. We also featured articles that included a look at the Barnes Foundation’s exhibit of Pueblo and Navajo art, and, crucially, a piece that shares the findings of New York’s recent health survey, regarding the medical state of Indigenous peoples of the United States and of the Americas in that city.
In the coming year, we’ll be hosting digitally streamed indigenous-lead workshops, as a small way that we can pass on knowledge. A wide range of topics will be available, including but not limited to the history of the Lenape, and Taino, as well as modern effects of the Lenape Diaspora, and fun activities to help indigenize future generations! If you’re interested, request a consultation with our EDU team today. Of course, we’re also going to have interviews with more indigenous creatives, artists, and authors as the opportunities arise. Be sure to keep an eye on both this blog and our calendar of events to get an idea of the kind of things you can look forward to from IPDPhilly!
